Position Description
Department Overview
The Registered Nurse (RN) working as a member of an inter-disciplinary team is integral to Clinical Transplant Services. The RN functions as a liaison between the patients and staff members of the transplant team (physicians, social worker, financial counselor, psychiatrists, etc.) and has the primary responsibility for providing direct and indirect professional nursing care for patients in all phases of care. The RN is responsible for patient follow-up including clinic visits, diagnostic procedures, laboratory tests, medication regimen and education accomplished through frequent contact with the patients and families, the physicians, and other team members. The RN provides essential post-Float cross coverage as able. The RN assesses patient and family needs, develops a plan of care, implements and evaluates the care delivered, working closely with all members of the inter-disciplinary team. The RN participates in off-site Outreach activities as able. The RN is expected to practice in accordance with professional standards, core values, and with a commitment to service excellence.

The OHSU Clinical registered nurse (RN) provides compassionate, evidence-based, and efficient care to individuals, families, communities and patient populations. The Clinical RN’s care delivery is consistent with the Oregon Nurse Practice Act, the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, and the ANA Code of Ethics. The Clinical RN demonstrates the professional role obligations of scientist, leader, practitioner, and knowledge transferor [O’Rourke Model of the Professional Role™]. Professional accountability enriches the Clinical RN’s engagement as a leader in promoting an inter-professional culture of collaborative decision-making, innovation, life-long learning, and teamwork. Required Qualifications
- Minimum 3-5 years recent acute-care hospital nursing (at time of hire).
- Associate or Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from a program accredited by Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), or Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA)
- Associate Degree Nurses required to enroll in BSN program with 3 years of hire and complete within 5 years of hire.
- Current unencumbered Oregon RN license.
- Obtain unencumbered Washington RN license within 2 months of hire date.
- Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Able to triage and prioritize patient issues using critical thinking skills.
- Excellent written and verbal (incl. face-to-face) communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with attention to detail.
- Able to work as part of a team and to work independently and problem-solve.
- Able to work with frequent interruptions.
- Transplant nursing experience (inpatient or outpatient setting) strongly preferred.
- Certified Clinical Transplant Coordinator, preferred.
- BSN preferred
Usual Orientation Time:
- New Grads: N/A. This is not a position for a new grad
- Specialty Experience: 12-16 weeks
- Experience, but not in specialty area: 16-48 weeks
